Ashby's fire district is approx. 110 square miles. We have two fire engines capable of operating from internal water tanks, city hydrants, or static sources such as portable tanks, lakes, or streams. Our tanker has a portable 700gmp drafting pump that can be used to fill itself and other mutual aid tankers. We maintain two four wheel drive mini-pumpers for quick attack, wildland, and hard to reach fires.
Ashby Fire Department's ambulance service started in 1961 with a used hearse. Today we operate two state of the art type III BLS ambulances. They are stocked with some of the latest equipment available in order to offer the best possible service to our patients. Our service area is 300 square miles in portions of three counties.
AFD carries a variety of rescue equipment, most of it in our rescue truck. The rescue has a full compliment of Hurst tools (Jaws of Life), SCBA compressor and cascade, spare SCBA, generator, flood lights, rope, power saws, stokes basket, cribbing, folding ladders, road signs, traffic cones, flares, life jackets, inflatable rescue raft, hand tools, etc.
We respond to automatic and citizen reported alarms. We assist the resident by medically assessing occupants, checking the alarm, clearing the building, and measuring ambient gas levels if necessary. If your fire alarm sounds, get you and others out of the building and call 911. If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, it is best to leave the building and call 911 for help. Get occupants near a fresh air source or out of the building as soon as possible.
