Who We Are

We are a volunteer, city owned service.  The fire department and ambulance service maintain separate financial accounts. The fire department is funded by the city of Ashby and the townships we serve.  The ambulance service receives no taxpayer money and is funded solely through billing for its services.

Our staff is 100% volunteer. We receive no call time pay or hourly wage.  A small flat rate stipend is paid out per ambulance call attended (regardless of total time), paid once a year.  There is no stipend or hourly wage for fire calls.  Both the fire department and ambulance have a very modest retirement program. The fire department relief fund is maintained locally, and the ambulance fund is maintained by the state.

We pride ourselves on being volunteers.
